Thing 8

I can see how these presentation tools might be useful for some people, but not for others. I do go to every site mentioned and read and researched each site, but since I do NOT have a digital camera or any pictures that I can upload, I don't see how this can be of any use to me! I read the blogs after Thing 8, and it seems that some people really didn't like doing this and some had no problems. I didn't see or hear anyone bragging that this was the best thing ever, so I don't feel as if I am missing out on to much! I will keep this information handy for when our library gets a website so that I can review this even more at that time!

Thing 7

I had just typed this thing, and now I have to redo it because I forgot to save it!!!!!!!

To make a long story short, here goes: I watched R U Ready? Setting up & Running Instant Message Reference. I love the idea of IM, SMS, and other options. I know that it will be a long time coming for our library because we are so small! I can't wait to walk into a library any day now to have all of these options available to us!! We currently only use email to notify our patrons of overdue library books or for letting them know there is a book on hold for them here!

The future is so exciting waiting for these things to happen!!! Once it hits this library, I will jump for joy!!!!!!!!!

Thing 6

Well, I did it! I didn't like doing it, but I did it! I am not into trading cards of any sort, and don't know what I would even want on one if I had to seriously design one! I know that it would take me a good few months to come up with a design and what I wanted to put on it! This was one of the least fun things to do, out of all of the things so far!!!

Thing 5

I was having so much fun with this one that I lost track of time and kept the library open past closing time!!!! This was so much easier now that I figured out how to use Flickr better!! I loved the spell with Flickr, and the Flappr!!! Those were fun sites to go to and explore! I am looking forward to doing more exploring of these sites! Check out the bottom of my blog for my spell with flickr!

Thing 4

Ok! I am so frustrated!!!! I uploaded this picture from samples on my computer! It's the only picture I could get on my blog! I went through Flickr, found a great picture, even registered for a Flickr account, but I still can't seem to get any pictures from Flickr onto my blog. What am I doing wrong??? It makes me so mad! I have this great picture of a puppy and also great pictures from Tds that I want to put on here, but I can't get them here! HELP!!!!!!!!! If anyone can help or lead me in the right direction, I would be so grateful! Right now, I guess I'll move on to thing 5! Oh, by the way, I don't have a digital camera, so I can't put my own pictures on my blog!

Thing 3. Set up an RSS Account and Add Feeds

I can see how this could be helpful to those who are on the internet a lot and always checking different sites. For me, it is not something that I would us to often. I don't even know if I did it correctly anyway. I did it twice I believe, once under reader, and once on the blog here when I was redoing my layout.

I actually wrote down the sites that I wanted to include and than just typed them in because I didn't want to have to continuously bounce all over the net! Some of my favorite sites that I have bookmarked, do not have rss accounts or feeds. I will keep my eyes on them just in case they change.

This was one of the wierdest things I have done so far, and I am only praying that I did it correctly!

Thing 2

I just finished reading every article pertaining to Web 2.0 and I am still confused as to the issues regarding it. Is it about what it should contain with regards to library sites that use Web 2.0? I guess my take on this is that I agree libraries should have all and any information on any subject that can be found, but at what cost? A lot of information is online and not in the library, but should it be online in library 2.0? Should libraries have that information on their sites, instead of having to search the entire web? Why are the avatars needed on a library site? That point still confuses me. I guess that I am not into the fantasy world of pretending to be someone I am not, and therefore avatars don't thrill me.

A lot of our patrons do have internet access at home and can find books, order books, and renew books from home. What about those that don't have internet access? What is Web 2.0 to them? How does it pertain to the library they use in person?

I guess it all depends on what exactly it is everyone wants put on a library site using the Web 2.0 information and options. Are we required to use everything on a library web site or is it each individual libraries choice?

I know that Web 2.0 and Library 2.0 are our future, but we must also remember those patrons that do not have access to the web, and those older patrons who don't like change and want their library to remain exactly the same! A lot of the older patrons donate to our libraries and if we put everything on the web, will they continue to donate, since they can't access that information? Just some things to think about.

Thing 1

Like I said yesterday, I am proud of myself for getting a blog set up! I never thought that it would be this easy! The part I didn't like was the Avatar I had to add to my blogspot. That is something I would never do on my own, but I did do it. Everything was so easy and throughly explained that I immediately knew what I was going to do. I did have to use the back arrow button a couple of times (I'm not that internet savvy) because I couldn't remember what I was supposed to do or exactly how to do. All in all, setting up your own blog is easy to do. My thought is this: If I can do it, anyone can! No, you really can!!!

First Day

Wow!! I can't believe I did it! In my wildest dreams, I never assumed that setting up a blog would be so easy! All of my highschool yearbook peers would be proud!
